Living Fictions

Loyola University Gallery

February 2019

This exhibition will feature trans identified artists exploiting known power structures (gender, institutional, governmental etc) in their own bodies. This exhibition is an experiment in challenging known trans narratives and for artist and audience to find understanding in dissonance. So many personal experiences in the LGBTQ community arrive with a set of familiar symbolism, feelings, & trauma that other queers inherently understand yet, the general audience must in fact be taught. How do queers make art for each other without it being predictable? How in turn do we celebrate trans art and artists in a larger community, making work inherently about trans-ness without creating a spectator effect. This show may not succeed, but we will learn something in the process.
